How to view LOG video files.
Received raw footage that looks washed-out? It just needs the right viewer. Here are the easy options and the professional ones.
LOG footage is recorded flat to preserve detail. To see it in proper color, you apply a small color profile called a LUT. It's simpler than it sounds.
The quick way — just to watch
If you only want to preview the footage, a free media player will do. These open almost any file and let you load a color profile or simply view the raw footage:
- VLC Media PlayerFree, works on Mac and Windows. Opens nearly any video file instantly.
- MPVLightweight and fast. Supports applying LUTs for accurate color preview.
- PotPlayerWindows-friendly, with built-in color and LUT options.
The professional way — to actually grade
If you (or an editor you hire) want to color the footage properly, professional software gives you full control. This is the same class of tool we use:
- DaVinci ResolveA free, professional-grade color and editing suite. The industry standard for grading LOG footage.
- Adobe Premiere ProSubscription editing software with strong LUT and color tools built in.
When we deliver LOG footage, we can include the matching LUT so the color is one click away. And if you'd rather skip all of this, we can deliver a ready-to-watch, color-corrected version instead — just let us know.
You never have to become a colorist. We're happy to deliver footage ready to watch.
